About the Artist
German artist Cordula Heuer is a contemporary oil painter operating from a shared studio in Milan’s historic Navigli district. Following an international trajectory outside the traditional art world—including an MBA in Economics from Stirling University, Scotland (1997)—Heuer developed her practice through a dedicated, primarily self-taught methodology. Working exclusively in oil, her practice explores the boundary between structure and spontaneity. Her work has been included in various exhibitions in Italy and is represented in permanent collections, including Robella Castle, Italy.
Artistic Practice: Materiality, Memory, and Abstract Evolution
The practice of German artist Cordula Heuer centers on the vital, generative tension between structure and spontaneity, underpinned by an acute sensitivity to the mechanics of color, light, and energy. Working exclusively in oil, Heuer orchestrates a dynamic, tactile dialogue between tool and medium: her brushwork establishes subtle tonal nuances, while her palette knife asserts a raw, physical immediacy onto the surface.
Heuer’s recent practice marks a rigorous evolution from the figurative to pure abstraction. Rather than a rupture, this shift represents a deliberate distillation of her core thematic inquiries: memory, identity, and the subconscious. By dissolving representational anchors, she liberates the canvas from linear narrative, allowing the intrinsic materiality of paint to dictate form.
The resulting works are heavily layered, liminal surfaces that occupy the space between two-dimensional image and three-dimensional object. Rich in texture, gesture, and rhythm, these works reject literal interpretation. Instead, they demand an intimate, optical engagement, offering a contemplative space where the internal landscape is powerfully evoked through a pure vocabulary of form and color.
Architectural Pillars
Materiality & Generative Tension:
A tactile interplay of heavily layered pigment, finely balanced between calculated, controlled brushwork and the unpredictable, visceral force of the palette knife.
The Abstract Evolution:
A deliberate reduction of the figurative into pure emotional resonance, shifting focus entirely to the architecture of the interior psyche by stripping away the external world.
Active Surfaces:
Dimensional, high-presence canvases that bear the physical traces of artistic decision, erasure, and mutation, existing as living archives of the creative process.
